Built as a cruise vessel under yard No. 464 by O/Y Wärtsilä Ab, Helsingfors, Finland for Princess Cruises, London and managed by P & O.
18 Feb. 1984 launched under the name ROYAL PRINCESS.
Tonnage 44.348 gross, 5.580 net, 4.800dwt., dim. 230.61 x 29.60 x 7.80m. (draught).
Powered by four Pielstick 6-cyl. medium speed 4-stroke diesel engines, 39.600hp., twin screws, speed 22 knots.
Two bow thrusters, 750 kW.
Passenger accommodation for 1.260 passengers in 600 cabins., crew 500.
She has 12 decks.
30 October 1984 delivered to Princess Cruises, building cost US 150 million.

She is built for worldwide cruising.
After delivery sailed to Southampton, where H.R.H.Princess Diana, Princess of Wales, named her.
19 November 1984 sailed out for her first cruise.
2005 Renamed by Princess Tours Ltd., U. K. in ARTEMIS and transferred to Bermuda Registry.

In 2001 Ecuador issued two stamps of which one depict a view of the port Manta in Ecuador, the two cruise ships depict are according Mr. Peter Crichton the BLACK WATCH the smallest cruise liner and the ROYAL PRINCESS, while the two merchant ships are not identified.
