SPIRIT OF BERMUDA

Built as a wooden three-masted Bermudian schooner on the shipyard of Rockport Marine Inc., Rockport Me., USA for the Bermuda Sloop Association, Bermuda.
13 August 2006 launched under the name SPIRIT OF BERMUDA.
Displacement 103.419 kg., (most probably weight of the vessel), dim. 34.14 x 7.01 x 2.92m. (draught), length on deck 25.90m, length bpp. 22.86 m.
Bermudian rig, sail area 4.437 square feet.
Building cost USA$ 5.7 million.

The schooner was designed by Lagan Design Associates, Newport RI, and based on civilian Bermudian schooners built between 1810 and 1840, and depict on a oil painting of 1834 by John Lynn
She is a mix between very old and modern, something what looks wooden, are carbon fibre, like the masts, while the deck machinery is run hydraulic.
The hull is made of seven layers of wood and epoxy.
The intentions is to use her as a sail training ships for the young people on Bermuda, and every youngster in the Bermudian school system will spend educational time onboard it.
28 September 2006 under command of Capt. Chris Blake and a crew of 32 she arrived at 06.30p.m at Bermuda.


10 cent, is a view of the hull construction, which was made upside-down over a wooden mould.
35 and 70 cent, depict the sea trials of the schooner.
85 cent, showed the SPIRIT OF BERMUDA approaching Bermuda from the south west side.
$1.10, when she is proceeding to Hamilton Harbour.
$1.25, when she is powering upwind in Bermuda’s Great Sound.
