COSTA FORTUNA who with her Sister COSTA MAGICA were delivered in 2003 and 2004. Both vessels, Costa's largest ever, had been commissioned from Fincantieri of Genoa Sestri, Fincantieri is one of the most important, diversified shipbuilding concerns in the world. It employs a staff of about 9,300, has design centres in Genoa and Trieste (the largest in Europe) and builds vessels at eight shipyards, which report to three business units: the Cruise Ship Business Unit (MonteIcone, Venice-Marghera , Genoa-Sestri), the Merchant Ship Business Unit (Ancona, Castellammare di Stabia , Palermo) and the Naval Vessel Business Unit (Rive Trigoso Muggiano).
Subsidiary companies of Fincantieri are: Isotta Fraschini Motori, which designs and produces medium power diesel engines, CETENA (Centre for Studies of Naval Technologies) devoted to R&D in the field of the shipbuilding and vessel propulsion, and Orizzonte Sistemi Navali, which works in the field of naval systems and acts as Prime Contractor and Warship Design Authority for the definition, design, integration and marketing of surface vessels of high technologic& and system content (corvettes, frigates, destroyers and aircraft carriers) for the domestic and foreign markets.

The 103,000 dwt COSTA FORTUNA, built b Fincantieri became operational in 2003, is 27 metres long and can carry 3,470 passengers. Along with its sister ship, the COSTA MAGICA, it is currently the largest passenger ship flying the Italian flag. It has a total of 1,358 cabins, 857 of which are external (63%), consisting of 58 suites, 464 with a large balcony, and 335 with a window. The ship is equipped with all possible comforts to offer guests the utmost in terms of fun and relaxation: 11 bars, Four restaurants, a three-level theatre, Four swimming pools (including one with a self - propelled cover) casino, disco¬theque, ballroom, and a wellness centre that includes a gym. In the "Club Conte Grande 1927" a la carte restaurant, located at the highest point of the ship, guest will enjoy special menus prepared by Zeffirino, the world-famous Genoese restaurant.
The Costa Fortuna, whose interiors were designed by the American architect J. Farcus, is dedicated to the legendary Italian "Liners", the transatlanntic vessels that plied the liner route between Italy and the Americas.
Each saloon on the COSTA FORTUNA is inspired by a great transatlantic liner of the past, from which it takes its name and year it entered service. It is also freely inspired by its style, name and epoch.

The name of the ship is wrong. The ship depict the COSTA ATLANTICA (or the twin COSTA MEDITERRANEA).

The ship offers a succession of surprises and attractions, starting with the immense, lively and breathtaking entrance hall.
