To commemorate the 25th Anniversary of Liberation, the Jersey Post Office issued a set of four stamps on May 9th 1970, the Is. 9d. stamp showing the Vega, owned by Stockholms Rederiaktibolag Svea (Svea Line) and chartered by the International Red Cross on March 3, 1941. She carried Red Cross supplies and P.o.W. parcels from Lisbon to Marseilles and the Channel Islands. The long-lasting charter ended on June 6, 1945, in London, where she loaded general cargo for Stockholm and arrived at her home port as the first ship from London after the war.
The Vega was built at Gothenburg, in 1913, by Lindholmens Verkstad. Her gross tonnage was 1,073; net 623 tons; deadweight, 1,640 tons, and dimensions were 226 ft. 4 ins, by 35 ft. 1 in. by 14 ft. 4 in. Triple-expansion steam engines gave her a speed of 10 knots.
