Marion Dufresne is a multi-purpose vessel. She performs oceanographic research and re-supplies the French Austral Islands of Crozet, Amsterdam and St Paul.
She is also a passenger liner, a cargo vessel, a fuel tanker, a helicopter carrier and is one of the worlds largest scientific vessels and the best research vessel in the world for deep sea coring.
She displaced the first Marion Dufresne in 1995. SG363

Built as an oceanographic research and supply vessel under yard No 291 by Snach (Societe Nouvelle des Ach Le Havre for G.I.E. MD2, Marseilles, France.
Launched as MARION DUFRESNE.
Tonnage 9.403 grt, 2.820 net, 4.871 dwt., dim. 120.75 x 20.6 x 7.4., length bpp. 107.6m. draught 6.96m.
Powered by diesel electric by three 8-cyl Cegelec diesel engines, manufactured by Gec Alsthom Moteurs, Nancy, France, 8.125 hp, connected to electric motors, 8.125 hp, twin screws, speed cruising 15.7 knots.
Fuel capacity 1804m³.
Accommodation for 110 passengers.
Three holds total capacity 5.343 cubic meters. 1 crane 4 ton, 2 cranes 10 ton, 2 cranes 25 ton and 1 crane 160 ton.
Carried 1 helicopter for loading and unloading operations in the Antarctic Islands

She is managed by CMA CGM The French Line, and chartered by Territory of French Austral and Antarctic Land (TAAF) for the supply of the Crozet, Kerguelen, Amsterdam and Saint-Paul Islands.
