This stamp commemorates the return of the islands to France, and shows two settlers, with their belongings, after they had come ashore from their transport.
France’s sovereignty over St Pierre and Miquelon was re-established after the Treaty of Paris in 1814. On April 22, 1816, a small fleet left St Malmo to take possession of the islands again. This fleet consisted of the frigate La Revanche (Revenge), the flutes Caravane and Salamandre, and a number of small schooners, under the leadership of the new head of the colony, Naval Commissioner Bourvillon.
