Tor and Atle

The Tor was built in 1964 at the Wartsila shipyard, Abo, and has a gross tonnage of 4,209 Her dimension, are: length 277ft 2 in., beam 71 ft. 8 in., draft 20 ft. 4 in., depth 31 It 2 in. Diesel. electric powered, she has four oil engines, of the 2-stroke single-acting type, each having eight cylinders, 510 mm. dia„ by 550mm. stroke, developing 13,820 b.h.p, driving four generators, each of 2400 kW, 800 volts, d.c. These are connected to four electric motors of 3,000 s.h.p. She is fitted with four propellers, two forward, and two aft.
The Atle is Sweden's most modern icebreaker, having been delivered this sear by 0/Y Wartsila A/B, at Helsinki. Her length is 343 ft. 2 in. beam 78 ft 1 in.; draft 27ft. in.and depth 39 ft. 9 in. Five vee oil engines, four-stroke, single-acting, each having 12 cylinders 400 x 460 mm., develop 39,000 b.h.p., and drive five generators connected to four electric motors, each of 5,500 s.h.p., geared to the screw shafts. There are two forward Propellers; and two aft.SG825

Built as an icebreaker under yard No 374 by Oy Wärtsilä Ab, Helsingfors, Finland for the Swedish Government.
11 June 1962 keel laid down.
Launched as the TOR three sisters the TARMO, VARMA and NJORD.
Tonnage 3,947 grt, 1,184 nrt, 1,024 dwt, displacement 5,302 ton, dim. 84.49 x 21,76 x 9.50m, draught 6.19m length bpp. 76.39m
Powered diesel electric by four 8-cyl. Sulzer Wärtsilä diesel engines, each 2,530 hp. Which supply four electric motors two of 1,100 hp and two 1,700 hp. Four fixed pitch propellers, two forward and two aft. Speed 15.00 knots.
31 January 1964 completed and crewed by Swedish Navy crew.

21 February 1964 commenced ice breaking.
17 February 1975 assisted and pulled off TRELLEBORG who grounded at Granhamnsfjärden, Sweden.
16 March 1980 in collision with the Finish icebreaker SISU in which she was sever damaged on her bow.
September 1985 during a manoeuvre she grounded, refloated and went to a shipyard for repair.
2000 Sold to unknown buyers in Norway and the same year sold to Russia buyers.
09 December 2003 owners given as Balttrans North West in Russia.
12 July 2004 owners given as Tangra-Oil Ltd., Russia.
24 January 2005 owners again given as Balttrans North West , Russia.
09 January 2007 owners given as Vspomogatelnyy Flot Llc, St Petersburg, Russia.
14 December 2009 owners given as Rosmorport.
2014 In service, owned by Rosmorport, Moscow and managed by Rosmorport at St Petersburg.
