Loge

The Angola 2.50s. stamp, part of a set issued for the centenary of the birth of Gago Coutinho, is a delightful full colour reproduction of the Portuguese river gunboat Loge, first ship commanded by Coutinho. She was built in 1887 and had a displacement tonnage of 40 tons. As can be seen on the stamp she carried two machine guns, one forward, one aft; her speed was 71/2 knots. The Loge was broken up in 1896. SG678
