In 1910 Cammell Laird and Co., Ltd., Birkenhead, built the Sarnia, 1,504 tons, depicted on the Sark ls.7d. stamp, for the London and South Western Railway Company. With her sister ship Caesarea she shared the distinction of introducing the turbine into the company's fleet. They were triple-screw steamers with a speed of 20'/2 knots. The Sarnia was torpedoed and sunk in 1918 while serving as an armed boarding vessel in the Mediterrnaean.
