Flamer

In 1831 the 2-masted clipper paddle steamer Flamer, 165 tons, built by Fletcher and Pamell, and operated by the Post Office, carried the mails until 1837 and then, renamed Fearless, was operated by the Admiralty. A fine representation of this old-timer is seen on the ls.3d. Alderney stamp.

Built in 1830-'31 by Fletcher & Farnall, Limehouse, displacement:165 tons, L:33.85m. B:15.18m. Draught:3.48m. 2 steam engines each 30 HP. wooden hull.
06-1831 maiden voyage Weymouth- Jersey.
'37 renamed HMS FEARLESS, '38 converted in Chatham, where the hull was strengtened and a new engine built in.
In summer '39 taken out of service, to Woolwich as servey vessel till '75, then either demolished or hulk till 1937
