The stamp features the arrival of the Royal Yacht, Victoria and Albert, the first of the name, though two later vessels maintained the name as Royal yachts. The vessel is seen at the new extension to St. Helier harbour, which the Queen had come to open; it still bears the name Victoria Pier. Out in St. Aubin's Bay can be seen Elizabeth Castle, honouring an earlier Queen of England. The yacht was the first steam Royal yacht and was built at Pembroke in 1 8 43 . She was a wooden paddle steamer with one funnel and two masts. Her name was changed to Osborne in 1855, and she was broken up in 1868. The vessel's dimensions were: length 200 ft. 1 in.; beam 33 ft.; displacement, 1,034 tons.
