Post by shipstamps » Sun Aug 10, 2008 9:44 am

The Sturmfels, was actually built as a Training Ship. Unlike many training ships she is not located in one anchorage, and has to pay for her keep. There is a place for 50 nautical and technical volunteer students aboard. The ship runs between Europe, U.S.A., and the Middle East. With her two heavy derricks, loads up to 150 tons can be lifted. She is owned by the Deutsche Dampfschiff fahrts Gesellschaft "Hansa", of Bremen. Built by Lubecker Flender-Werke, at Lubeck in 1972, her gross tonnage is 11,181; net 6,670 and deadweight 14,036. Her length is 153.25 m width 22.80 m. and depth 10.03 m. MAN oil engines of 12,250 b.h.p. give a speed of 20 knots. SG1822
