Tenyo Maru

This vessel was built in 1907 by Mitsubishi Dockyard and Engineering Works in 1908. She was a steel triple-screw steamer of 13,398 gross tons, net 6,292. Owners were the Toyo Kisen Kabushiki Kaisha. Length 558 ft., beam 61 ft. 9 in., depth 55 ft. 5 in. and draft 31 ft. 9in. After completing her last voyage on July 1, 1930 she was laid-up for two years at Kobe, and was sold in 1933 for breaking up by Japanese ship-breakers. SG1424

Built as a passenger-cargo vessel under yard No 190 by Mitsubishi Dockyard and Engineering Works for Toyo Kisen Kabushiki Kisha.
23 June 1905 keel laid down.
14 September 1907 launched as the TENYO MARU, the name means “heavenly ocean”, two sisters the CHIYO MARU and SHINYO MARU.
Tonnage 13,454 gross, 6,292 net, dim. 175.26 x 18.9 x 16.91m, draught 9.45m. length bpp 170.2m.
Powered by Parsons steam turbines manufactured by Parson Marine Steam Turbine Co., Wallsend, U.K., 20,000 shp., three shafts, speed 20 knots.
Accommodation for 275 first, 54 second and 800 third class passengers.
22 April 1908 completed.

02 June 1908 she made her maiden voyage from Hong Kong via Yokohama and Honolulu to San Francisco, where she arrived on 29 June 1908.
1925 She received new turbines.
1926 Toyo Kisen Kabushiki Kisha was taken over by Nippon Yusen Kaisha, and the TENYO MARU was transferred to her new owners.
When her astern turbine failed it was repaired and thereafter was she put in the Japan to Manila service.
01 July 1930 she arrived for her last voyage in Yokohama, where after she was laid up for two years in Kobe.
1933 Sold for breaking up, and scrapped in the 2q of 1933 in Japan by Toyo Shoji.
