Maldive Courage, originally the Owerri of Elder Dempster Lines Ltd. Built by Harland and Wolff Ltd., Belfast, she has a gross tonnage of 5,798, net 2,951, deadweight 7,697. Dimensions are 450 ft. x 62 ft. 4 in. x 34 ft. and draft 28 ft. 01/4 in.
A 2-stroke, single-acting oil engine developing 3,750 bhp gives a speed of 121/2 knots. She was bought by Maldives Shipping Ltd. (managers, Maldivian National Trading Corporation (Ceylon)SG593

Built as a cargo vessel under yard No 1479 by Harland& Wolff, Belfast for the Elder Dempster Lines Ltd., Liverpool, Great Britain.
14 October 1954 launched as the OWERRI.
Tonnage 6,240 grt, 3,072 net, 7,697 dwt., dim. 137.2 x 19.0 x 6.55m.
Powered by one 5 cyl. Harland B&W 2S.SA, diesel engine, 3,750 bhp, speed 12.5 knots.
Two holds before the bridge and two holds behind the bridge.
For cargo handling she was fitted out with 17 derricks from 3 – 12 tons capacity and one heavy derrick of 50 tons at No 2 hatch and a 30 ton derrick at No 4 hatch.
21 January 1955 delivered to owners.

After delivery used in the Great Britain West Africa service.

August 1962 she took two injured men on board from the British ship FERNCOAST, which had been disabled by an engine room explosion. She landed the two men in Oporto, Portugal.

21 July 1972 sold for £110.000 to the Maldives Shipping Ltd., Male, Maldives, renamed MALDIVE COURAGE. (Managed by Maldivian National Trading Corporation ( Ceylon) Ltd., Colombo.)

March 1983 she left Jeddah for her last voyage to the breakers yard on Gadani Beach, Pakistan where she arrived on 28 March1983.
April 1983 work commenced of scrapping by Ali & Co.
