The sloop Kathleen, which used to carry the inter-island mails in the Turks and Caicos Islands, is shown on this stamp. This vessel was destroyed in the 1945 hurricane and has since been replaced by a sister ship. So difficult is the cross-channel passage from Cockburn Harbour to Grand Turk that it frequently takes 20 hrs. to make this 20-mile run against the Trade Winds.
