CITY OF WORCESTER paddlesteamer

Built as an iron side paddlewheeler under yard No. 186 by Harlan Hollingsworth, Wilmington, Del. for the Norwich & New York Transportation Co., New London.
March 1881 launched under the name CITY OF WORCESTER.
Tonnage 2.490 gross, dim. 328 x 46 x 14.5ft.

She was the first large ship in the USA fitted out with electric light.
Used in the cargo and passenger service between Norwich-New London to New York.
1912 Broken up.

The stamp is designed after a painting made by Alexander Charles Stuart (1831-1897).
