PARAGUAY gunboat 1931

Built as armoured gunboat by Cantieri Odero, Genoa, Italy for the navy of Paraguay.
April 1929 laid down under the name COMODOR MEYO.
Launched under the name PARAGUAY (C1) one sister the HUMAITA.
Displacement 856 tons full load, dim. 70.15 x 10.70 x 1.65m. (draught).
Powered by two Parsons geared steam turbines, 3.800 bhp., twin screws, speed 18.5 knots.
Two boilers, fuel capacity 170 tons.
Armament 4 – 120mm., 3 – 76mm AA, 2 – 40mm AA guns.
Crew 86.
May 1931 completed.

Took part in the Chaca War (1932-1935) against Bolivia, not active but more for the transport of stores, equipment and troops.
During the midst 70s she received an upgrade.
2005 Still in service, but not operational more, the engines are not reliable, and there are plans to replace the steam engines with diesel engines, even after she has served for more as 70 years.
