SAN CARLOS ship-of-the-line 1765

Only one SAN CARLOS was built in Havana for the Spanish Navy.

Built as a 2nd Rate ship-of-the-line at the Astillero Real in Havana, she was the first ship built after the destruction of the shipyard by the British during the occupation of one year of Cuba in 1762.
1765 Launched as the SAN CARLOS (III), she was designed by Jorge Juan
Tonnage 1.600 tons, dim. 54.88 x 15.6 x 7.80m., length of keel 49.27m.
Two decks.
Crew 942.
Armament: 30 -36lbs., 30 – 18lbs., 20 – 8lbs.

1793 She transported cash money for the army from Catalonia to Cartagena, while the frigates DIANA and SOLEDAD carried the money to Barcelona.
January 1795 at Havana

28 February 1795 sailed from Havana with the EUROPA with on board gold, platinum and goods, at that time she was commanded by Captain Don Enrique Macdonnell.
19 April 1795 arrived at Cadiz together with the EUROPA carrying 9.773.587 pesos, precious metals and other goods.

1801 At Cartagena rebuilt in a 1st Rate three-decker.
Tonnage 1.952 tons.
Armament 30 – 36pdrs, 32 – 24pdrs, 32 – 12pdrs, 18 – 8pdrs.

1805 Based at Cadiz but took not part in the Battle of Trafalgar, most probably in a bad shape.
1819 Decommissioned and broken up.
