Germany issued a 60pf stamp on 03 May 1990 to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the German Life Boat Institution. The stamp design shows a collection box in the shape of a lifeboat.
The institution carries out search and rescue operations for ships in distress in the German areas of the North and Baltic Seas.
Since its founding on 29 May 1865, the institution has saved approximately 50.000 lives.
