Built as an iron ship under yard No 33 by Alexander Stephen & Sons, Glasgow for George Smith & Sons, Glasgow (City Line).
03 March 1862 launched as the CITY OF BOMBAY.
Tonnage 1.010 grt, 991nrt, dim. 64.62 x 9.66 x 6.58m.
Ship rigged.
March 1862 completed.

The company commenced shipowing in 1840 and trade mainly from the U.K. to India with sailing vessels.
Around 1852 also voyages were made to the West Indies, Valparaiso Australia and New Zealand. Later also from New York to India and U.K.
1901 The City Line was sold to J.R. Ellerman and became the Ellerman’s City Line.

From 1862 till 1876 under command of Capt. R. Aidair, then Capt J.T. Sewells til she was sold.

1882 She was sold to Capt. J. Rhind, Glasgow and renamed BOMBAY.
1886 Sold to J.N.Ward & Sons, Fleetwood. U.K., not renamed.
1899 Sold to Rederi-A/S Norden (C.Bech), Tvedestrand, Norway, renamed NORDEN.

01 March 1907 wrecked at St Pierre Island, Seychelles with the loss of six of her crew.

On the stamp is she depict as barque rigged, so in her later life her rig was changed.
