During 1967 the island of St. Helena commemorated the tercentenary of the arrival of settlers after the Great Fire of London, while the tercentenary of the first settlers of Barbuda, a dependency of Antigua, was commemorated by that island. Both St. Helena and Antigua issued postage stamps for the occasion, one from each island depicting the Queen's head and the settlers' ship.
The St. Helena settlers arrived at Jamestown in the East Indiaman Charles, named after the King, and the stamp designer has given his impression of how this ship might have appeared.
