Another conference has been commemorated by an Australian stamp issued on February 26 1969, the Sixth Biennial Conference of the International Association of Ports and Harbours, the venue being the Southern Cross Hotel, Melbourne, from March 3-8, which had a temporary post office established and a special conference postmark. The stamp design shows a Melbourne harbour scene with ships and a tug and the city skyline in the background. The tug on the left is the Walumba; the ship in the middle is the Celtic Monarch; and the ship on the right with the bow showing is the City of Ottawa.
The City of Ottawa was built in August 1950, by Vickers-Armstrong Ltd. at Newcastle, for the Ellerman Hall Line. Her gross tonnage is 7,622, with a net of 4,427, on dimensions of 485.3 x61.9 x 28.10 ft. draft. She is a turbine-driven cargo vessel having three steam turbines single-reduction geared to the screw shaft, the s.h.p. being 7,920 and speed 151/4 knots. Accommodation for 12 passengers is provided.
