HUMBOLDT research vessel

Built as an oceanographic research/survey ship under yard No. 32 by the Service Industrial del Marine (SIMA) yard in Callao, Peru for the Peruvian Government and managed by Instituto del Mar del Peru (IMARPE), Callao.
03 January 1977 keel laid down
13 October 1978 launched under the name HUMBOLDT.
Tonnage 1.731 gross, 60 net 600 dwt, dim. 76.2 x 127 x 4.2m. (draught) Length bpp. 66.0m.
Powered by two 10-cyl. B&W Alpha diesel engines 3.000 bhp. two propellers, speed 14 maximum, cruising 12 knots.
Range 10.000 miles by 12 knots.
Bunker capacity 409 cubic meters.
Accommodation for 6 officers, 34 crew and 40 scientists.
1980 Completed.

She is built as a modified trawler.

1986 Renamed in BIC HUMBOLDT. BIC means Barco de Investigacion.
26 February 1989 she went aground off King George Island in the Antarctic.
27 February she caused a half-mile long oil slick before frogmen of the Chilean Navy were able to seal her tanks.
The Ice Patrol ship ENDURANCE took off the 65 crew and scientist when she took in water after grounding. The men were landed at a Chilean station, thereafter the ENDURANCE returned to the HUMBOLDT to monitor pollution and help with the salvage.
05 March 1989 was she refloated by her own means.
2015 Still in service. IMO No 7607376 but she is not on http://www.equasis.org
