VIKING ADCC ferry

Post by aukepalmhof » Wed Jul 15, 2009 8:39 pm

The following comes from the Aland Post web site:

On 1 June 2009, the Aland Post issued the stamp Newbuilding depicting Viking Line’s newest ferry, planned to be put in traffic in the summer of 2009. This was not the case, and Viking Line has recently revoked its agreement with the shipyard. Consequently, the Newbuilding stamp is now quite unique, featuring a ferry which will, most likely, never be completed.

Before was given that most probably the lead vessel of this class was depicting VIKING XPRS but her building was never cancelled and she is in service by the Viking Line.

The vessel cancelled in February 2010 by the Viking Line was the VIKING ADCC by the Spanish shipyard Astilleros de Sevilla.

Built as a ro-ro ferry under yard No 1 by Astilleros de Sevilla S.A., Spain for the Viking Line Abp. for Basalease SA, Establecimiento Financiero de Credito (Banco Santander).
29 January 2007 ordered.
06 May 2008 keel laying ceremony.
Tonnage 15,600 grt, dim. 133.00 x 21.00 x ?m.
Powered by eight Wärtsila diesel engines, 20,000 kW., speed 22 knots.
2010 She is still on the builders slip most probably she will never be finished.

The intention was that after she was completed she was used and managed by the Viking Line in the short Mariahamn to Kapellskär service.
