Built as an iron vessel on the yard of Barclay Curle & Co., Glasgow for the Cunard Line.
1853 Launched under the name DELTA.
Tonnage 645 gross, dim. 62.48 x 8.89m.
Two cylinder steam engine, 120 nhp, single screw speed 9 knots. The engine was manufactured by the shipbuilder. Two boilers, 6 furnaces.
When built she was rigged as a barque, but most probably altered later. Also the drawing in Haws book gives a vessel with two masts, while the stamp depict a vessel with three masts. On a website I found the DELTA depict as on the stamp, and she is there given as a Royal Mail vessel, but the Royal Mail never have had a vessel under the name DELTA.
Used in the service between Halifax- New York and Bermuda.
Most probably she was rebuild before 1872.
Her register was later changed to Canada.
Wrecked September 1899 in St Mary’s Bay, Newfoundland.
