Built as a wooden hulled ship by Cantiere Cadenaccio, Sestri Levante for Fratelli Frassinetti of Genoa.
10 Dec. 1865 launched under the name COSMOS.
Tonnage 1.700 ton gross, 2.800 dwt., dim. 70 x 12.7 x 5.0m. (draught).
Ship rigged.
Accommodation for 40 passengers in cabins on deck and 600 steerage.

Till that time she was the largest Italian-built wooden ship, the pride of her owners in the years during which steam was growing in importance. A very beautiful ship indeed (we could classify her as a clipper), her speed in good condition of wind and sea was 14 knots.
15 Feb. 1866 sailed for her maiden voyage from Genoa in her service to Montevideo and Callao, Peru around Cape Horn, a voyage of 84 days.
She continued in the service to South America and the Pacific.
1869 During her 5th passage via Cape Horn she sustained heavy damage due to a violent storm.
Returning to Genoa 04 July 1870. She was idle by the strong competition of the steamers in carrying emigrants and was lost by fire in 1879.
