EXPRESS II

Built in 1877 by the Oscarshamns Mekaniska Verkstad, Oscarshamn, Sweden for Finska Transito-ångbåtsaktiebolaget (Carl Korsman).
1877 Launched under the name EXPRESS II.
Tonnage 298 gross, dim. 42.2 x 6.85m.
Steam engine 400 hp. Speed 11 knots in ice free waters.
Accommodation for 26 passengers.
She was built after plans of Robert Runeberg.

She was the first Finnish ship capable of operating in ice. She operated on the route between Hanko and Stockholm.
1878 Renamed in S/S EXPRESS.
She took part as a coal bunkering ship for Dr. Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld’s Northeast Passage expedition in 1878. She left the expedition when they arrived in the River Yenisey
March 1879 bought by C. Korsman, Hanko, name shortened to EXPRESS without number.

1882 Lengthened and received new engines. Length 50.1 meter, tonnage 350 ton, speed 13 knots.
November 1893 Sold to the Finland Steamship Co. Ltd..
1888 New cabins, smoking saloon on deck, new engine of 650 ihp., speed 12 knots.
Until 1898 used on the Hanko – Stockholm line.
1898 Converted into a cargo ship for trade in the Baltic Sea. 445 gross, dim. 48.97 x 6.72m.
1901 Cabins for 21 passengers re-installed.
March 1901 sold to Russian owners, renamed SOLOMBOLA in 1904.
1906 As non-mercantille deleted from ships register.
1930 Broken up.
