La CURIEUSE research vessel 1989.

The vessel depict on this stamp is a stylized form of a ship, but I believe the intentions of the designer was to show us the French research vessel La CURIEUSE. Maybe when the stamp was designed she was not in service, and was the design made after a drawing of the ships plan.

Built in 1989 under the name LA CURIEUSE, (Who has the builder.)
Owned by Institut Polare Français.
Tonnage 162 grt, dim. 25.00 7.60 x 3.8m (draught.)
Powered by two Poyaud V12 diesel engines each 414 hp, speed 10 knots.
One bow thruster 50hp.
Crew 6, scientist 12.
She is/was working in the waters off Kergeulen Islands under the name La CURIEUSE.
Used also for the service to islands in the Golfe du Morbihan and the rest of the archipelago.
It provides logistical support to scientific research on land.
Fitted out for research in oceanography, ichthyology and hydrography.
Mostly every year she returns to La Réunion for resupply and repair.
It is used sometimes for emergency duty to other islands in the Antarctic, and can assist vessels in distress or trouble in that part of the Southern Ocean.
