On the stamp issued by Yugoslavia you can find the Austrian sailing vessel SPLENDIDO. At that time that part of Yugoslavia did belong to Austria.
She was ordered by Captain Ivan Visin (1806-1868) and built on the yard of Andrija Zenon in 1850.
Captain Visin was born in Prcanj in Boka, now Croatia, and an outstanding Croat from the Bay of Kotor.

The SPLENDIDO was 311 tons, carried two guns and had a crew of 11. The length of the vessel was around 30 meters. Homeport Rijeka.
She sailed under his command and loaded with a cargo of textiles she left Antwerp, Belgium on 11 February 1852, towards South America.
During bad weather on this passage she broke her mainmast.
After four months and sic days she arrived at Montevideo, and then she sailed on to Valparaiso via Cape Horn, where she took on board a new cargo for San Francisco.
After arrival most of his crew deserted to the gold fields, only a young lad with the name Fridrigo Belavita also from Prcanj stayed on board.

Captain Visin managed to get a new crew, and she sailed on via Honolulu to Singapore and then via the Cape of Good Hoop back to Trieste, where she arrived on 30 July 1859.
The voyage took 7 years, 6 months and 19 days; Captain Visin was the first seaman from Yugoslavia who circumnavigated the globe.
After his return he was decorated by the Austrian Emperor with the Merito Navali, the decoration still is kept in Prcanj.

On the other stamp (8D) of this set is showed an old sea chart, and an image of Captain Ivan Visin.
A painting of the captain can be found in the Mother Gods church at Prcanj. The depicted sea chart is in the Naval Museum of Kotor, and a painting of the SPLENDIDO is in the church of Prcanj.
