LAGO MAIHUE

Built as a cargo vessel under yard No. 118 on the yard of Union Naval de Levantes, Valencia, Spain, for Emp. Mar. del Estado at Valparaiso, Chile.
1970 Launched under the name LAGO MAIHUE.
Tonnage 9.565 gross, 5.813 net, 15.807 dwt., dim. 474.6 x 67.11 x 30.4ft (draught).
Powered by one 6 cyl. Sulzer diesel, 9.900 bhp., speed 16 knots.

She was one of the Freedom Hispania class, built on Spanish and Argentinean yards. The Freedom class ships were able to carry bulk cargoes of grain without fitting of shifting boards, bauxite, packaged timber and iron ore. Also cars can be carried and containers 5 in one tier underdecks and also on the hatches and upperdeck.
Most of this type was fitted out with derricks for loading and unloading.

1989 Her tonnage given as, 8.493 gross, 5.692 net, 16.061 dwt. One of her voyages was in that year from Valparaiso to San Antonio, Chile, where she arrived on 22 Sept. 1989.

1993 Sold to Panocean Shipping Co. Inc., Panama, renamed OCEAN TRADER
1995 Sold to Antor Shipping Co. Ltd., Panama, renamed PENELOPE ALFA.
I am not sure why, but maybe the deal fell through, but in 1996 was she sold under the name OCEAN TRADER and by Panocean Shipping Co. Inc., Panama, to Indian shipbreakers, and she arrived 09 March 1996 at Calcutta.
