FUNCHALENSE cargo vessel 1927

Built in 1927 as a steel screw motor vessel by Gebroeders Bos, Groningen, Netherlands for N.V. Vrachtvaart Mij “Everhard” (R.Kramer), Groningen.
Launched under the name EVERHARD.
Tonnage 374 gross, dim. 142.4 x 23.2 x 10.7ft.
Two hatches. 32ft and 29 x 18ft.
One 6 cyl. 4S C.S.A. Deutz Motor, A.G. Köln, 350 bhp., speed 9.5 knots.
July 1927 delivered.

December 1927 sold to Empresa de Navegaçao Madeirense Lda., renamed FUNCHALENSE.
She was an outstanding step in the development of the maritime transport of Madeira. During the next 26 years it assured the fortnightly transport of goods between Funchal and Lisbon. The voyage between Funchal and Lisbon took an average of 4 days.
Only during the Second World War the service was interrupted.
When the company ordered an other FUNCHALENSE in 1952 she was renamed SAO SILVESTRE.
October 1953 laid up at Lisbon.
Jan. 1955 sold to Empressa de Navagaçao Frasil Itda, Lisbon, not renamed.
1965 Sold to Componave Cia Portuguesa de Nav. Ltda., Lisbon, renamed MARICARMEM.
December 1977 foundered off Cabo del Gato.
(The Portuguese info leaflet gives; dismantled 1966, so it looks this is not correct.)
