Post by aukepalmhof » Wed Sep 02, 2009 8:17 pm

The DAU was used to transport products in the Pemba (Porto Amelia) area at Mozambique.
Reported lengths 10-12 meters, carried mostly a crew of two.
Double ended boat. Carvel planked; slightly curved stem; raked sternpost; sheer line rises toward the bow.
Decked at the ends.
Carried a full cut quadrilateral lateen type sail with a short luff set to a forward raking mast; luff boomed out over the bow.

Mozambique 1997 10.000m sg1440, scott1282 (Stanley Gibbons give “Dhow” which is wrong.)
