DARING HMS (D32) 2009

Built as guided-missile destroyer under yard No 1061 by BAE Systems, Scotstoun, Scotland for the Royal Navy. She was built in sections on different yards in the UK, and assembled at Scotstoun near Glasgow.
28 March 2003 the first steel was cut.
01 February 2006 launched as HMS DARING (D32), christened by Sophia Countess of Wessex, the wife of Prince Edward. She was the first of the Type 45 destroyers of the Daring class.
Displacement 7.205 light weight, 8.092 full load. Dim. 152.4 x 21.2 x 7.4m. (draught), length bpp. 141.1m.
Powered by two Rolls-Royce WR-21 gas turbines, 21.5 MW (28.832 hp) delivering power to two electric motors, 20 MW (26.820 hp.), twin shafts, speed 29 knots
Range 7.000 mile by a speed of 8 knots.
Armament: SYLVER missile launcher. 48 MBDA Aster missiles. 2 – Phalanx 20mm close-in weapon systems. 1 – 4.5 inch Mk 8 mod gun. 2 – Oerlikon 30mm KCB guns. NATO Seagnat countermeasures launchers. SSTDS underwater decoy.
Hangar and flightdeck aft, suitable for 1 Merlin HM1 or 1 Lynk HMA 8 helicopter.
Crew 190 maximum 235.
23 July 2009 commissioned, based at Portsmouth.

She is the newest and modernist warship in the Royal Navy.
