FERRE submarine 1912

Built as a submarine by the yard of Schneider-Creusot, Chalons-sur-Saone, France for the navy of Peru.
1910 Ordered.
Launched as the FERRE, named after a hero crew member of the HUASCAR who died during the “Battle of Angamos”.
One sister the PALACIOS.
Displacement 300 ton surfaced, 400 ton submerged. Dim. 52.1 x 5.1 x3.1m. (draught).
Powered by two 6-cyl. Schneider-Carels diesel engines, 400 hp., twin screws, speed 13 knots on the surface. Two electric motors 200 hp. supported by two groups of 96 battery cells. Speed 9 knots.
Range by a speed of 10 knots 2.000 mile.
Armament 4 – 17.7 inch torpedo tubes, she carried 6 Smulders torpedoes.
Crew 21.
October 1912 delivered.

The two boats were designed by the French submarine designer Maxime Laubeuf (1864-1939).
Both submarines were transported to Peru on board the KANGUROO a cargo ship of 2.493 tons which was designed to carry submarines. The submarines were floated in through the bow.
Due to a lack of spare parts and knowledge personnel she was only for a short time in use by the navy of Peru.

1919 decommissioned.
1926 scrapped.
