SEPARACION DOMINICANA

Post by aukepalmhof » Mon Oct 12, 2009 8:19 pm

Not much on the early history of this vessel is known, she was one of the first vessels of the Dominican Navy, bought of required most probably from a local owner.
Most probably after the independence renamed in SEPARACIÓN DOMINICANA.
When on 27 February 1844 Dominica declared her independence from Haiti, the at that time President of Haiti Hérard declared on 07 March 1844 a blockade of all Dominican ports.

15 April 1844 in the Battle of Tortuguero the Dominican ships MARIA CHICA (3 guns) under command of Juan Bautista Maggiole and the SEPERACIÓN DOMINICANA (5 guns) under command of Juan Bautista Cambiaso defeated the Haitian brigantine PANDORE, and the schooners Le SIGNIFIC and La MOUCHA (not an armament given).

At a consequence of this Haitian defeats Hérard was overthrown on 3 May 1844 and the suspension of the Haitian military and naval operations against Dominica.

Thereafter SEPERACIÓN DOMINICANA disappears, her fate not known.

Two more stamps are issued by the Dominican Repl. On the Battle of Tortuguero, 1977 20c sg 1297 and 1989 40c sg 1737, most probably she is also depict on these stamps.

Dominican Repl. 1976 20c sg 1255, scott764. 1994 6p sg1866, scott1168.
