A painting from the Franciscan Monastery at Dubrovnik is shown on this 5.00d. stamp issued by the Belgrade Post Office in 1969. This votive painting by an unknown Dubrovnik mariner shows a type of 16th century vessel of that port. At first sight it appears to be a Japanese woodblock print type of art, but for the top right-hand corner. The crew seem to be in difficulties with the sail and it is not usual to find casks and planks floating around one's ship.
The above description of the stamp is by Ernest Argyle in Sea Breezes January 1970.
I don’t have anything further on it.
