Built as a full cellular container vessel under yard No 210 by Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd., Ulsan, South Korea for the United Arab Shipping Co., Abu Dhabi.
23 December 1982 launched under the name KHALED IBN AL WALEED.
Tonnage 32.534 grt, 12.692 net, 35.615 dwt, dim. 211.46 x 32.26 x 18.6m., length bpp. 198.71m., draught 11.27m.
Powered by B&W diesel engine 18.400 hp., manufactured by Hyundai, one propeller, speed 17.0 knots.
Container capacity 2179 TEU’s.
1983 Delivered to owners.
Used in the East Coast of North America-Mediterranean-India Express line.
11 February 2004 was she caught when she deliberately polluted France’s Mediterranean waters. Aerial photos were produced at the court at Marseille in September 2004, which showed an 18km long 50-meter wide slick behind the vessel off Cap Sicie near Seyne-sur-Mer in the vicinity of Toulon.
The master received a one-year suspended sentence and a fine of EUR 15.000; the United Arab Shipping Co. was fined EUR 485.000.
