Volage HMS 1825

Post by john sefton » Tue Dec 01, 2009 10:52 pm

HMS Volage was a 28-gun sixth rate launched in 1825.
She was involved in the capture of Aden, Jan 19 1839 under Captain H Smith.
The First Battle of Chuenpee was one of the first major engagements in the First Opium War. In November 1839, the British 18-gun Hyacinth and the 28-gun Volage ships opened fire on Chinese ships they perceived as being hostile.
She was converted into a survey ship in 1847, lent to the War Department as a powder hulk in 1864 and broken up by 1874.
