PISAGUA BAP (SS-33) submarine

Built as an attack coastal submarine under yard No 133 by the Howaldtswerke Deutsche Werft AG, Kiel Germany for the Navy of Peru.
21 March 1977 ordered as one of the type 209/1200.
15 August 1978 launched as the BAP PISAGUA (SS-33), named after the Battle of Pisagua which took place between Chilean warships and Peruvian coastal artillery on 02 November 1879.
Displacement 1.185 tons surfaced, 1.290 tons submerged. Dim. 56.1 x 6.2 x 5.5m.
Powered by four MTU type 12V493 AZ80 GA31L diesel engines, each linked to a 450 kW Siemens alternator. 1 Siemens electro motor, 4.600 shp, one shaft, speed 21 knots submerged.
Fuel capacity 63 tons.
Range by a speed of 4 knots surfaced 11.300 mile.
Armament 8 – 21 inch torpedo tubes (carried 14 Whitehead A184 wire guided torpedoes.)
Diving depth 250 meters.
Crew 35.
12 July 1983 commissioned.

During sea trials in the North Sea she came in collision with a Russian cargo vessel on 08 April 1982 in which she suffered damage which delayed her delivery from the yard.
2009 In service.
