First frigate of this class. Built by J Humphreys at Philadelphia and launched May 10th 1797.
Nick-named "Old Waggon'.
Sunk when the Federals abandoned the Norfolk Navy yard on April 20th 1861.
Later she was raised and used as a receiving ship until 1866, when she was finally broken up.

Built in 1796-'97 by Joshua Humphreys, Philadelphia.
Frigate, L:62,22m. B:13,51m. 44 guns.
Belonged to the first six frigates of the US Navy.
In 1798-'99 cruised in the West Indies and captured 4 French merchant ships.
On 25-10-1812 she fought against the British frigate HMS MACEDONIAN, which she captured near Madeira.
Demolished in 1865 , after she was sunk on 20-04 -'61 at the Norfolk Navy Yard.
