19 January 1973 launched under the name ROYAL VIKING SEA.
Tonnage 21,897 grt, 3,594 dwt., dim 177.70 x 25.20 x 7.30m. (draught), length bpp. 142.7m.
Powered by four geared 9-cyl geared diesels, Sulzer Bros O/Y Wärtsillä, 18,000 bhp, twin screws, speed 18 knots, maximum 21 knots.
Accommodation for 536 passengers, crew 324.
16 November 1973 delivered to owners.

25 November 1973 made her maiden voyage in the Bergen and Newcastle service, replacing the LEDA when that ship was overhauled.
From 11 December 1979 used for worldwide cruising.
11 March 1983 arrived at AG Weser Seebeckwerft, Bremerhaven for lengthening. A new prefabricated mid-section was placed, increasing her tonnage to 28.018 grt, 5.936 dwt., length increased to 205.5m.
29 November1983 rescued 151 people from the Indian ferry DOJO, which was already adrift in the Celebes Sea for 11 days, the DOJO sunk later.

November 1997 till December 1998 chartered by Norwegian Cruise Lines, used in cruises from Houston, Texas.
January 1999 till June 2001 made cruises for Norwegian Capricorn Line from Australia to the Pacific.
October 2001 again to the Actinor Cruise when corporation finished with Capricorn Holydays.
November 2001 renamed in NORWEGIAN STAR I.
24 May 2002 charter finished.
June 2002 chartered to Crown Investment and renamed in CROWN. Used as a casino vessel from Shanghai to Cheju Island.
November 2002 arrested at Shanghai on the grounds of payment difficulties with Crown Investments.
February 2003 after the owner guaranteed payment, she was released.
From June 2003 made cruises in the Mediterranean.
22 March 2004 sold to TSS Albatross, Nassau, Bahamas.
January 2004 chartered by Phoenix Reisen, Germany, renamed in ALBATROS.
September 2005 exchanged some machinery in Germany.

Bonn-based Phoenix Reisen is sending two of its ships, the ALBATROS and the AMADEA to Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven before their winter season of around the world cruises. Last May, Lloyd Werft converted the cruise liner ARTANIAa (ex-ARTEMIS) for Phoenix Reisen.
Lloyd Werft has seven and 14 days respectively to carry out extensive work on the 28,518-ton, 830-passenger ALBATROS and the 28,856-ton, 600-passenger AMADEA.

The ALBATROS arrived in Bremerhaven 30TH November 2011. The former ROYAL VIKING SEA was lengthened at Lloyd Werft by 28 meters in 1983. The 205.46-meter long ship will stay until 17TH December 2011. One of the main jobs being undertaken on the ship in the giant Kaiserdock 11 is the installation of a new bulbous bow. “This will save the owner about 5 percent of his fuel costs”, said Lloyd Werft Managing Director Rüdiger Pallentin, explaining the need for the big job on the ship’s hull.
