GOLIATH (SG 816 Rwanda 1977 11 r.) was a paddlesteamer and a tug. She was chartered by the English Channel Submarine Telegraph Co. to lay a telegraph cable between Dover and Cape Griz Nez (France) on 28th August 1850, She was supported by H.M.S. WIDGEON during this job. On her deck GOLIATH had a drum of 7'6" in section and 15' long, just behind her paddle‑boxes then. It must be clear that she was launched in or before 1850.

Built in 1846 by Stephen Wood, South Shore, Gatesend, as a tug for Towing Co., London.
Gt:119, Nt:44, L:31,40m. (103') B:5,27m. (17.2') draught:3,05m. (10') 100 hp.
In 1856 sold to Alexander, John & William Mace and George Brook, Poplar, 03-1860 total loss.
