BEBATIK LNG tanker 1972

Built as a LNG tanker under yard No G25 by Chantiers de L’Atlantique (Penhoet-Loire), St Nazaire for Shell Tankers (UK), Ltd., London.
08 October 1971 launched as the GADINIA, six sisters.
Tonnage 48,662 grt, 25,921 net, 36,847 dwt. Dim. 256.70 x 34.80 x 20.65m., draught 11.53m.
Powered by one Stal-Laval/Atlantitique AP 24 steam turbine, 20,800 shp, speed 18.25 knots.
Five loading tanks with a capacity of 74,981 cubic metre.
October 1972 completed.

29 October 1972 she sailed from the yard under command of Captain S.F. Darroch and a crew of 39.
After a voyage of one month she arrived in Brunei.
09 December 1972 she sailed with the first loaded LNG cargo from Brunei to the Seboku Terminal at Osaka, Japan where she arrived on 15 December 1972.
Thereafter used between Brunei and Japan and Korea.

1986 Sold to Brunei Shell Tankers Sendirian Barhad and renamed in BEBATIK, named after a local fish caught in Brunei waters.
2011 In service under same name and owners, IMO No 7121633, managed by Stasco Ship Management, Shell Centre, London
DWT is now given as 51,579 ton.
