These ships were constructed for fighting purposes. Their forms were finer than those of the usual nau’s, they were equipped with more artillery and their hold was not as large as those of the freight units.
They did not represent however a special type of vessel; in fact, when it was necessary to prepare fighting fleets or have ships intended to make war, recourse was made to the strongest freight units available.
