CANOA DE TOLDA

Post by aukepalmhof » Mon Jul 25, 2011 8:26 pm

CANOA DE TOLDA: This large old type sailing vessel was the most important sailing vessel on the lower Sao Francisco River in Brazil.
Carried a heavy load and is still in the memory of the old people living along the river.
Till 1999 the last CANOA DE TOLDA was in use on the river sailing from the hinterland places Alagoes and Sergipe to the river mouth.
The same year was she acquired by a Brazilian society in partnership with the Consulate General of Germany to make it possible that future generations in Brazil still can see a important part of there history from the Sao Francisco River.
Have not any details on the craft herself.
