The current Sri Lankan Navy was established on 09 December 1950 when the Navy Act was passed for the formation of the Royal Ceylon Navy. The roots of the modern Sri Lankan Navy dates back to 1937 when the Ceylon Naval Volunteer Reserve Force was established, which was renamed and absorbed into the Royal Navy as the Ceylon Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve during World War II.
The current name Sri Lanka Navy was constituted in 1972 when Sri Lanka becoming a Republic and the introduction of new constitution.
The craft depict on the stamp is most probably a fast attack craft built by the Colombo Dockyard Limited, Colombo, Sri Lanka. The design is based on the Israel-Shaldog Mk II
Three classes were built the difference between the classes are small.

Armament: 1 Typhoon stabilized system with M242 Bushmaster/Oerlikon 200mm canon & additional armaments.
Crew 12.
The class is special designed for naval/coast guard duties including, counter terrorism, interception and attacking. Coastal patrolling and surveillance and interdiction and boarding.
