SALBAT

SÅLBÅT: Used in Finland and Sweden in the Gulf of Bothnia in the winter for seal hunting, while in the summer used as a work-boat.
She is better known under the name FÄLBÅT.
Double-ended, clinker planked; bow shallow and rounded stern deep and strongly raked. T keel; curves up gently at the stem, broad from the midships aft the keel. Strong sheer, partly reduced by washstrakes; hull may be ceiled. Rowed with three places or sailed.
In Sweden an other type is also in use, which has a raked transom, rounded stem and flatter floor.
Generally smaller in the northern part of the gulf than in the south.
Set two spritsails or a lugsail forward and a sprit mizzen.
Length 7 – 9m., beam 2-3m.
