Endeavour ll (yacht)

Post by john sefton » Tue Oct 25, 2011 7:39 pm

ENDEAVOUR II. (Gren Grenada 1992 SG 1581). J class challenger for the Americas Cup, 1937. Designed by Charles Nicholson, owner and skipper again T.O.M. (Tommy) Sopwith. Loa 135'9". Challenging Club, Royal Yacht Squadron.
This race series had been postponed due to the presidential election of 1936, which the US designers used to their advantage, and ENDEAVOUR ll, an inferior vessel to the defender Ranger, lost the series in four straight races, the last by over 17 minutes. Ranger is considered by many to have been the
greatest J class yacht ever built. This was the last time the Americas Cup was raced in these massive vessels.
