The Triona II was owned by the British Phosphate Commissioners and built by Harland and Wolff at Glasgow in 1930.
She replaced an earlier ship of the same name. (see index)

Built as a cargo vessel under yard No 975 by Lithgows Ltd., Port Glasgow, Scotland for British Phosphate Commissioners, London.
26 November 1942 launched as the TIRONA.
Tonnage 7,283 gross, 4,128 net, 9,500 dwt., dim. 141.1 x 17.16 x 10.45m. length bpp. 141.06m.
Powered by one triple expansion steam engine, manufactured by J.C. Kincaid, 510 nhp, one shaft, speed 10 knots.
February 1943 completed.
After delivery managed by A. Weird & Co. Ltd.
30 July 1943 she sailed from New York in convoy HX 250 to Liverpool with general cargo, it looks that she during the war was used world wide by the British War Department.
11 January 1944 was she torpedoed by the German U-532 in position 00 03N 80 43E, the torpedoes detonated in her anti torpedo net only damaging the TIRONA. At the time she was torpedoed she was unescorted.
After the war managed by James A. Bissett, and used in the phosphate trade from Nauru to Australia and New Zealand.
1960 Sold to Chiap Hua Manufactory Co., Hong Kong where she arrived on 02 May 1960 for scrapping.
