She was most probably built at Glasgow by Ritchie, Graham and Milne, of Glasgow for the African Lakes Corporation, she was built in sections and transported to Matope on the Shire River, where she was again assembled.
Launched as the MONTEITH, named after Low Monteith Fotheringham, who played an imported roll in the company’s private war against the Arab slave trader Mlozi at Karonga in 1887-9. He was also the manager of the Corporation when he died in 1895.
Displacement 75 tons, dim. 70 x 16ft.
Stern paddle wheeler.
1896 Completed.

December 1896 made her maiden voyage from Matope over the Shire River to Fort Johnston on Lake Malawi.
Her shallow draught enabled her to run even when the water in the river was very low.
1922 Still in service and broken up around 1940.
